The System Development Life Cycle

Project is a planned activity that has a beginning and an end, aiming to produce the desired outputs or objectives. In relation to the development of information systems, the variety of approaches to systems development life cycle (SDLC) is carried out in order to complete the project and generate output that is targeted. SDLC itself is an entire process of development, manufacture, use, and peng-update-an an information system.

There are several types of approaches are applied in the SDLC, namely predictive approach and adaptive approach. The explanation is as follows:
  1. Predictive approach, is an approach which assumes that the SDLC development project can be planned and organised in advance, so that the new information system will be developed can be built according to the plans that have been made before.
  2. Adaptive approach, is an SDLC approach is more flexible, which assumes that the development of the project can not be thoroughly planned in advance, but the project planning must be modified on an ongoing basis over the course of the development of
Here are a few considerations that need to be considered carefully before making the selection to one of each type of approach, which has been described above:

Predictive Approach
    • Considering all forms of needs (requirements) of the systems defined at the start, then the requirements of the information system will be built to be more easily understood.
    • The risks associated with the technical things will tend to be lower.
    Adaptive Approach
    • Needs (requirements) of the system to be built is unclear and uncertain, considering their needs can change over from project development progress.
    • The risks associated with the technical things will tend to be higher
SDLC has several common stages such as the following

    1. Project planning, which at this stage would have done identification of the scope of the new system, and also to ensure that the project can be run (the business feasibility study), as well as making planning-planning to schedule, budget, and resources required in the development of this information system project.
    2. Analysis, which at this stage aims to understand and document things in detail related to your needs and business processes which should be diakomodir by a new system that will be developed.
    3. Design, which at this stage aims to design new systems with solutions that respond to the needs that have been defined in the analysis phase.
    4. Implementation, which at this stage aims to build, menguji-coba, and implement information systems that have been developed, which also finished accompanied by training activities of its users.
    5. Support, which at this stage aims to ensure that the system runs has appropriate and have a productive performance consistently to support business processes.
