Systems That Solve Business Problems

last article I discussed about The Analyst as a Business Problem Solver, now how system solve Business Problem.

The solutions provided by a system analyst is not uncommon in the form of an information system that is able to provide value to improve the performance of the company's business. Information system is a set of components (hardware, software, people, procedures, data, etc.) which are interconnected in the collecting, processing, storing, and providing an output in the form of information needed in order to complete a work assignment. The system itself has a meaning as a collection of components that are interconnected which equally serves to achieve a desired output. Meanwhile, the subsystem is a system that is part of a larger system.

Not infrequently, when a system is considered to have a scope too broad or complex, then conducted functional decomposition in advance to facilitate in its development. Functional decomposition is dividing a system into groups based on the component subsystems that have been further divided into smaller subsystems. PT information system e.g., XYZ is divided into four subsystems namely Customer Relationship Management systems, Accounting and Financial Management systems, Manufacturing Management systems, and Human Resource Management System; where Customer Relationship Management System in functional-decomposition into a Sales Management System, Account Management System, Product Information System, and Technical Support System.

Further, any system that is built will have delimiters between himself and his environment. This delimiter can be either a system boundary or automation of boundary. System boundary is the separation between the system with its surroundings, where the boundary line is determined from the papasan between input and output it. In the meantime, system boundary is the separation between the automated manual with parts of a system.

Types of information systems which often found are as follows:
  1. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System, is a system that supports the activities of marketing, sales, and service operations that involve either direct interaction with the customer or not.
  2. Supply Chain Management (SCM) System, is a system that seems to unite the activities of product development, product acquisition, manufacturing, and inventory management.
  3. Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) System, is a system that records the accounting information needed related to the creation of financial reports and other reports, which will be used by investors and creditors.
  4. Human Resource Management (HRM) System, is a system that supports employee-related tasks such as payroll, benefits, hiring, and training.
  5. Manfucaturing Management System, is a system that controls the internal production process that transforms raw materials into finished goods.
  6. Knowledge Management System (KMS), is a system that supports the storage and access to documents from all parts of the organization.
  7. Collaboration Support System (CSS), is a system that allows employees who are separated geographically to be able to collaborate and work together in a project or the same job.
  8. Business Intelligence System, is a system that supports strategic planning and decision-making is done by the executives of the company.
