What is the Organizational Culture?

A thought patterns, habits and behaviors created by a group tetentu then developed and applied in an organization. A value held by people in the organization and a differentiator from other organizations.

Why is it important to learn?

Because in the culture that we learn to adapt to new environments that exist within the organization, so that what we do in accordance with what is desired in the organization and as a differentiator from other organizations

Differences in organizational culture will usually be affected from 7 characteristics of the company.
  1. Innovation and risk taking. Companies such as Apple Computer, which is very fond of new things, will encourage their employees to dare to innovate and take risks.
  2. Attention to detail. Companies are very attentive to detail (such as banks) will force its employees to not commit the slightest mistake. 
  3. Outcomes Orientation. Typical results-oriented company, is not too concerned with how technical and implementation process, provided that the results obtained in accordance with the target.
  4. People Orientation. The Company will consider the effect on employees when it will take a decision.
  5. Team Orientation. Companies that promotes teamwork (eg soccer team) will build a culture that supports teamwork. Likely they will often do a team building event
  6. Aggresiveness. Companies like this will encourage its employees to be aggressive and competitive spirit rather than relax relaxing fun.
  7. Stability. The companies that uphold stability (such as Kompas Gramedia), tend to be very conservative and will not encourage employees to frequently spawn new ideas. Employees are only required to follow the pattern that has been formed.
What Functions Organizational Culture?
- Distinguishing from other organizations.
- Identification of the employees of a company.
- Commitment to employees above the common interest.
- Social Sticking with standard provides what employees should do and say.
- Control mechanisms that shape employee behavior.

Obstacles or Lack of Culture Organization, among others:

  1. Barrier to change. Entrenched culture will be difficult to change. Sometimes the corporate culture must be replaced if it is to keep abreast of the times that is still able to compete.
  2. Barrier to diversity. Kultur will result in the employee have the same tendency to behave and speak. When there are others who do not act like most employees, then that person will be isolated.
  3. Barrier to Acquisition and Mergers. There are times when the company will be affected by the acquisition of or merger with another company. And if the culture at the two companies are different, there will be collisions that allows turmoil.
