Data required in many applications of information technology. Data must have a high quality, accurate, complete, timely, consistent, accessible anytime and anywhere, relevant and brief.
- Difficulties in Data Management
Often the data is processed in several stages and variations of different locations, which cause many problems and difficulties. Here is a variety of the Difficulties of managing the data:
- The amount of data increases exponentially. For example, historical data, data that contains elements of the time variable and must be stored for a long time, as well as new data are often added.
- Data are scattered randomly in an organization, and collected by anyone using a variety of methods and equipment
- Data obtained from a variety of sources: internal sources (database of companies, company documents), personal sources (opinions, experience) and external sources (government reports, commercial databases).
- Degradation of data. For example, customers who move to a new address, or change the name, the discovery of new products, new employees as well as employees who are fired, etc.
- Data rot. This difficulty is related to data storage media. Over time, the recorded data can experience physical problems. This can be caused by temperature, humidity, light, and so forth.
