Some examples of wireless devices is, smartphones, wireless transmission media such as microwave, satellite and radio. The benefits of wireless devices are as follows:
- Small size making it easy to carry.
- The device has enough computing power to perform productive tasks.
- The device can communicate wirelessly with the Internet or with other devices.
Advantage & Disadvantages Wirelees Media |
Here are several types of wireless media:
- Microwave. Microwave transmission systems, sending data via electromagnetic waves. This system is used for data transmission which has a large volume, yag distance away, as well as line-of-sight communication.
- Satellite. There are three (3) types of satellites: geostationary (GEO), medium earth-orbet (MEO) and Low-earth-orbit (LEO) .

- Radio. This transmission uses radio frequency waves to transmit data directly between the transmitter and receiver.
- Infrared. Infrared is used for short-range connections between computers and other devices as well as the LAN.
Wireless Computer Networks and Internet Access
Wireless networks are categorized according to the distance: short-range, medium and wide area.
- Short-Range Wireless Networks. In general, short-range wireless network has about 100 feet jangauan or less. For example, Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Near-field Communication (NFC)
- Medium-Range Wireless Networks. Known as Wireless Fidelity or Wi-Fi included in the Medium-Range Wireless Networks. MiFi, a portable wireless device that provides a permanent Wi-Fi hotspots wherever the user goes.
- Wide-Area Wireless Networks. This network connects users from different geographical locations spread to the Internet. There are two (2) categories in this network technology, namely: cellular radio and wireless broadband. Wireless broadband (WiMAX), has a range of up to 31 miles, while WiFi is only 300ft.
