What is Knowledge Sharing?

In Information System we know about Knowledge Sharing, but what is Knowledge Sharing?

Knowledge Sharing is one method in Knowledge Management used to provide opportunities for members of an organization, institution or company to share knowledge, techniques, experiences and ideas which are owned to other members. Sharing knowledge can only be done if each member had ample opportunity to express opinions, ideas, criticisms and comments to other members.

Knowledge Sharing is a very important activity in an organization. Through these activities, all staff of the organization can easily share best practices and experiences, creating a fresh new ideas, as well as saving a lot of time to solve a problem. Knowledge can come from anywhere, including the employees.

Therefore, an organization must appreciate any knowledge held by employees as an organizational development capital. Knowledge Sharing is not a thing that can be easily built, for the ability of the organization's leader is affecting.

Most of the portal site of an organization, institution or company has used features discussion forums to provide broad opportunities to its members in delivering the difficulties encountered in his work, ideas that arise to improve the productivity of work, criticism and suggestions to the organization, institution or company in order to create a conducive working environment, delivering experiences that might be useful for other colleagues, etc.

This process has the key steps include:
  • Identify a network of people that will be analyzed (e.g., team, workgroup, department).
  • Clarify objectives and formulate hypotheses and questions needed.
  • Developing the survey methodology and design the questionnaire.
  • Conduct a survey of individuals within the network to identify relationships and the flow of knowledge between individuals.
  • Using the software as a tool to map the network.
  • Analyzing the map, problems, and opportunities that may exist to conduct interviews or workshops.
  • Designing and implementing the necessary actions associated with the changes made.
  • Mapping the network again after a certain time period (periodic evaluation).
