Introduction to XML For Beginners

The information system is to know about XML, but what is XML? XML short eXtensible Markup Language, is a W3C-endorsed standard for markup language that was developed starting in 1996 and has received recognition from the W3C in February 1998. The markup language itself is a programming language to mark a document called a tag that document the more readable, understandable and interesting.

At first markup language used by the authors, editors, and the crew of printing in the publishing world, to mark how a manuscript presented. Editor marking the parts that need to be fixed by the script writer with special signs. Editors also do the same thing on a script that will be in-layout by designer (formerly a part of the crew printing), which part is italicized, bold, and others. In other words, markup languange is a combination of text with additional information about the script itself.

XML was designed as a solution of interoperability between applications on different platforms. For example, application A walk on the Java platform, want to share information with the same practice walking on the .NET platform. A application will read the request of apliksi B, then provide the information needed by apliksi B in XML format. Or it could be apliksi A provides information that has been packaged in an XML format, which can be used by application B, C, D, and so on.

XML is a language metamarkup used for text document where the data are inserted into the XML document must be in the form of a text string. As with HTML, this data flanked by the markup text that describes the purpose of the data. Text markup opener begins with "<" and ends with ">", while the closing markup begins with "</" and ending ">". The data is named by the elements.

To access the information in XML format can use tools web service. The simplest example of this is interoperablitas using XML and RSS feed aggregator. RSS feeds are information provided by a good website or a blog site that is packed in XML format. while aggregator

The advantages of using XML is:

  1. Extensibilitas. We can determine anything what tags we will use without any restriction.
  2. Separating data presentation. A dataset can contain only data without any other information how to display it. Because the XML document describes the contents of the data itself
  3. The search function is faster. Stored information will be readily available though different platforms.
  4. Can be exchanged or merged with other documents. By separating the data content with the presentation, it will mempemudah berbagaimacam merging the data from the source.
  5. Simplification of the application. To access the data becomes more simple, the client does not have to require a license or right of access to data
