Based on previous article Hardware, Software & Emerging type of Enterprise Computing, I will explain you about Computer hierarchy



  • Supercomputers. Supercomputers are used for large-scale organizations to carry out activities related to computing large amounts of data sets. Although these machines cost millions of dollars, but is used in commercial applications where the amount of data to be analyzed is very large. For example, the giant bank that uses a supercomputer to calculate the risk and return on investment.
  • Mainframe Computers. Mainframe popular among large-scale enterprise for extensive computing applications and is accessed by thousands of users simultaneously. Examples of mainframe applications is the reservation system of the aircraft, payroll programs, websites, transaction processing systems (eg, Amazon and eBay).
  • Midrange Computers. Midrange sized computer called minicomputers. This minicomputers smaller, cheaper and can perform the functions as well as mainframe computer. The server is a computer networking support minicomputers, and allows users to share files, software and other equipment.
  • Microcomputers. Known personal computer or PC is a computer that is the smallest size and the least expensive and are included in the category microcomputer. PC is often defined as a computer utilized by Microsoft Windows operating systems. Are included in the main category of the microcomputer is, a desktop computer, thint clients, notebooks and laptops, netbooks and tablets.
