Extranet? what is extranet? extranet is connecting business partners via the Internet by providing access to certain areas of the company intranet. Extranet using a virtual private network technology (VPN) to communicate over the Internet, so security is maintained. There are 3 types of extranets, which are:

  1. A Company and Its Dealers, Customers, or Suppliers. This extranet type appropriate for the individual company. For example extranet belonging to FedEx, which allows customers to track the delivery status. To do so, customers use the Internet to access the database on the intranet FedEx.
  2. An Industry Extranet. Some players in the industry, to work together and create an extranet that can be beneficial for them all. Examples are ANXeBusiness (www.anx.com) that enables the company to effectively collaborate through global media network that provides safe for Business to Business information exchange.
  3. Joint Ventures and Other Business Partnership. This extranet type, accommodate the partners in a joint venture as a means to communicate and collaborate.

Portals & Exchanges


There are two (2) basic types of corporate portals, namely:
  1. Procurement portals. This portal automates business processes related to purchasing or procuring products between the single buyer with multiple suppliers.
  2. Distribution portal. These portals automate business processes relating to the sale and distribution of products from a single supplier to multiple buyers
