Transmission Technology

Still discuss about Network, like a previous article Network Fundamentals. Now this topic about Transmission Technology, Lets begin!

Communication technology allows users to transmit large amounts of data quickly and accurately through various types of networks. Some transmission technology are as follows:

  1. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), provides digital data transmission at high speed in the home and office using the phone line.
  2. Asynchrounous Transfer Mode (ATM), this network allows users to access unlimited bandwidth on demand.
  3. Syncrhrounous Optical Network (SONET), is a standard interface that is designed to carry large amounts of traffic, the relative distances, using fiber-optic.
  4. T-Carrier System, a digital transmission system which establishes a circuit that operates at a different rate

Network Protocols

There are two main protocols: Ethernet and TCP / IP. Ethernet is a LAN protocol. Most companies, using 10Gb Ethernet, which provides network data transmission speed 10GB per second. However, 100 GB Ethernet has become the standard. Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) is a protocol of the Internet. TCP run three (3) basic functions:
  1. Managing the movement of packets between computers by making a connection between computer devices.
  2. Sort the transfer of the packet.
  3. Acknowledge the various packets that have been transmitted
Internet Protocol (IP) is responsible for dissasembling process, delivering, reasembling data during transmission. Before the data is transmitted via the Internet, the data is broken down into small chunks of data, which is called a packet.

Tipe Network Processing

Type of distributed processing is called client / server processing. Client / server processing connecting two (2) or more computing devices, where multiple devices called servers, which provide computing services to PC users, which is called the client. A special type of client-server processing is a peer-to-peer processing. Peer-to-peer (P2P) processing, the type of client / server, where each computer acts as a client and a server.
